The Magic of Frozen Vegetables
The information in this post is from the May 2018 Consumer Reports magazine
Frozen vegetables are a hidden gem in the grocery store. They are easy to prepare, and can add lots of great flavor and tons of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber to a meal.
From the May 2018 Consumer Reports Magazine, they give a list of their breakdown of different frozen vegetables mixes and options and their benefits and nutrition information.
From that list, here's our top picks! We based our choices on low sodium content. This list is in no particular order.
1. Green Giant Riced Veggies Cauliflower & Sweet Potato ($3.00)
Our first pick is the riced cauliflower and sweet potato from Green Giant. These veggies only have 15mg of sodium, and 50 calories per cup!
2. Trader Joe's Mashed Cauliflower ($3.00)
I'm a huge mashed potato fan, so when chain stores like Trader Joe's started making pre-made mashed cauliflower I was so excited! This mash has 270mg of sodium, and 50 calories per cup.
3. Hanover Steam-in-Bad Riced Cauliflower Garlic & Herb ($2.00)
I'm personally a huge fan of garlic, so these bags are perfect addition to your supper meal! They have 150mg of sodium and 40 calories per cup.
4. Green Giant Riced Veggies Cauliflower ($3.00)
This is a more simple side, but you could use it as a base for a veggie-based, low calorie dinner! These have 20mg of sodium and 20 calories per cup.
5. Hanover Blended Proteins Steam-in-Bag Sicilian Style ($3.00)
This bag of veggies has added sun ripened tomatoes and basil! It contains 133mg of sodium and 213 calories per cup.
6. Green Giant Steamers Antioxidant Blend with Broccoli, Carrots, and Peppers ($2.00)
These veggies have a healthy sauce on top, but still only have 115mg of sodium and 50 calories per cup!
We would definetly recommend these veggies! Frozen veggies are easy if you're busy and don't have time to prepare a home cooked meal. These veggies are also very inexpensive; the most expensive pack from the magazine article is $5.00. So give these veggies a try!
